Olivier Giroud, the prolific striker for Los Angeles FC, is set to make headlines once more as he auctions off a jersey worn during a crucial LAFC showdown to aid SOS Chrétiens d'Orient, an organization devoted to the plight of persecuted Christians worldwide.
Known for his steadfast faith and commitment to humanitarian efforts, Giroud voiced his heartfelt support for "all our Christian brothers and sisters persecuted in the East, especially in Armenia," during a video message released on November 20 at the auction event. "As Jesus taught us, there is more joy in giving than in receiving. It is a privilege for me to part with this jersey for such a noble cause," he stated.
The jersey being auctioned holds sentimental value; it was donned by Giroud during the U.S. Open Cup final on September 23 last year, where LAFC clinched the championship title, as reported by Le Parisien.
Reflecting on his achievements, Giroud remarked, "I feel blessed to have added this title to my career, and I firmly believe that this donation will provide much-needed support to our persecuted brothers and sisters in their time of need."
Giroud has established himself as a passionate advocate for the rights of Christians globally. Earlier in 2023, he successfully raised $37,000 for Artsakh Armenians by auctioning a jersey from the 2022 World Cup.
In a show of solidarity, French goalkeeper Mike Maignan, who previously played alongside Giroud, also joined the cause, further underscoring the critical role sports figures play in championing humanitarian initiatives.
